Fount

From source to production – Contemporary & Historical Creative Output and Culture from Rural Scotland and Beyond.

Featuring source literature Micromegas by Voltaire, The Watermill Bookshop, Artists’ Books, Contemporary Art and Design, this proof of concept publication was developed to highlight art and culture in rural regions of Scotland with a focus on the sources of creativity, the process of production and concepts behind the work.

Fount magazine is for local, national and international readerships with specialist interest in art, culture and heritage of Scotland. A core audience for the publication comprise artists, designers, emerging and established professionals in the creative industries including academics and students. It was designed in 2012 to connect common themes and interest amongst diverse disciplines of creative practitioners working in often disparate locations to each other. Recognising the significance of where one is based geographically continues to become less important in this post-digital, post-Covid age, the intentions of Fount remain relevant today. Fount aims to discover new connections and generate networks for visitors, creative professionals and organisations locally, nationally and transnationally.

As a vehicle for practice-research, Fount will explore and document localised creative practices in rural communities. In the process of publishing future issues of Fount, the role of magazines for art, culture and heritage in Scotland today for connecting individuals, communities, locales and nations through creative and cultural practices will be examined.
