Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop Micro-residency
The studio residency at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop in 2010 afforded the experimentation with ideas, working with concepts of flight and architectural space. I developed a suite of ephemeral sculptural objects and worked with photography to develop new images using these, in addition to documenting tests of projections of these images and the resulting arrangement of sculptural works in the space. Stills Focus Space Residency
Stills Focus Space Residency, 2009
A set of images were created with the use of the facilities at Stills Gallery, Edinburgh over the course of a month. The images were created by photographing paper and card sculptural works inspired by the architecture in the city and architectural model making. The slideshow below plays the same reel of images that were presented in the stairwell of Stills.
Scottish Sculpture Workshop
I was awarded a residency at the Scottish Sculpture Workshop in 2008. This allowed for both large scale metalwork as shown here, which I subsequently incorporated into installations at Generator Projects, Dundee and Cupar Arts Festival. I also developed small scale paper and ceramic sculptural works during this studio residency.
Royal Scottish Academy, John Kinross Scholarship
In 2004 I was awarded the Royal Scottish Academy’s John Kinross Scholarship, which was funding for a three month self-organised residency in Florence, Italy. I spent September to December of 2004 sketching and making hundreds of photographs of the city. This image, Pink Dome, was created using some of those photographs. It is now part of the RSA collection alongside another sketch. The image was used by the RSA to advertise the RSA John Kinross Scholarships the following year.
Tokyo Residency
Tokyo Residency
Funded by the Arts Trust of Scotland this month-long residency enabled the gathering of source materials for new work in 2005, some of which was exhibited as part of Platforma Exhibition, DJCAD, Dundee. I developed a suite of collages from some of the photographs displayed in this collection in addition to a number of drawings and sketches.
Research Town
